PBS North Coast Community Advisory Board
The PBS North Coast Community Advisory Board meets three times each year. CAB meetings are schedule on the following dates:
- October 9, 2018
Meetings are held at PBS North Coast, 7246 Humboldt Hill Road, Eureka, CA and begin at 5:30 PM unless otherwise noted.
In 1962 a group of individuals saw the need for educational media on the North Coast. Armed with $12,000 in donations and a $10,000 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, KEET-TV broadcast its first signal out of a downtown Eureka garage in 1969. Although it remains one of the smallest public television stations in the nation, PBS North Coast/KEET-TV, a community licensee, now serves 56,000 households in Humboldt and Del Norte counties.
The mission of PBS North Coast is to educate and enrich our communities by providing informative, entertaining programs and innovative outreach, creating public dialogue on local and global issues, foster lifelong educational opportunities, promote responsible citizenship, and build vital community partnerships.
The PBS North Coast Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a group of up to 15 individuals composed of a reasonable representation of the diverse needs and interests of the communities served by PBS North Coast and shall serve as ambassadors from the station to the community. The CAB members shall serve two-year, staggered terms (maximum six years) and shall meet at least twice a year.
The (CAB) responsibilities (as stated in Section 396(k)(8) of the Communications Act) are to review the programming goals established by PBS North Coast, review the service provided by PBS North Coast, review the significant policy decisions rendered by PBS North Coast and advise the PBS North Coast Board of Directors whether the programming and other policies of the station are meeting the specialized educational and cultural needs of communities served by PBS North Coast as determined by the advisory board. The CAB may make recommendations as it considers appropriate to the governing board to meet those specialized needs.
The role of the CAB shall be solely advisory in nature, except to the extent other responsibilities are delegated to the CAB by the PBS North Coast Board of Directors. In no case shall the CAB have any authority to exercise any control over the daily management or operation of PBS North Coast.
